This year’s Earth Day was celebrated in a truly special atmosphere during visit to Bochnia – our partner city in the LIFE DREAM CITIES project. On this special day, the Bochnia Market Square hosted an event as part of the 5th edition of the Małopolska Climate Days.
As the national coordinator of the European Climate Pact, together with our Ambassadors – Katarzyna Fornal-Urbaniak and Łukasz Pająk – we prepared a stand filled with climate-related challenges and activities for this occasion.
Participants had the opportunity to test their knowledge about climate change by taking part in climate mosaic workshops, educational games, and a climate-themed version of the popular game “Countries–Cities.” At our stand, visitors could also calculate their climate footprint, and thanks to the climate wheel of fortune and bingo, they could discover in an engaging and accessible way which everyday habits are more environmentally friendly. We also spoke with residents about local challenges and ideas for change, which were added to a map of Bochnia, creating a collection of inspiration for a greener city. The most engaged participants received prizes, which further encouraged active participation in the prepared activities.
Throughout the event, there were also many other attractions for participants. The Market Square hosted art workshops for children, a bookcrossing initiative, large-scale games, quizzes, and competitions with prizes. Participants could also take part in consultations on the Municipal Climate Change Adaptation Plan and receive a plant seedling in exchange for used batteries (1 seedling for 10 used batteries).
The Małopolska Days for the Climate is a regional educational and informational initiative implemented under the LIFE EKOMAŁOPOLSKA project, which has been integrating local governments, institutions, and residents around environmental protection activities since 2022. As part of the event, across all counties of Małopolska, for almost the entire month of April, competitions, workshops, eco-picnics, and tree-planting actions are held. Over four
editions, nearly 104,000 trees have been planted and more than 110,000 people have been engaged. The anniversary fifth edition began on April 8 in Wolbrom and its finale was scheduled for April 24 in Pleśna. This initiative shows that joint actions have a real impact on the environment and on building climate awareness.
