The next meeting of the DAPHNE project partners took place in Dublin on 9-10 September 2025. The event was an opportunity for international exchange of good practices in the field of healthcare sector decarbonisation and for discussing the project’s activities to date. This time, the host was the HSE Capital & Estates Energy Bureau from Ireland, which welcomed representatives of partner organisations from Belgium, Greece, Poland, Romania, Sweden, Ukraine and Italy. Poland was represented by delegates from the City of Ełk, the Pro-Medica city hospital in Ełk and our Association.
During the first day of the meeting at the former Richmond Surgical Hospital, now the Richmond Education and Event Centre, HSE Capital & Estates staff shared their experience in reducing energy consumption and carbon emissions, data collection, information and reporting systems, as well as energy management system certification in line with ISO 50001. Afterwards, the partners discussed the availability of energy consumption data in healthcare facilities in their regions and the challenges and objectives related to monitoring progress towards climate targets.
An important part of the first day of the event were also the participatory workshops, which enabled the partners to exchange good practices identified within the project. The participants were asked to place each of the practices on an axis – from least to most significant – and then to assess its level of complexity as well as the estimated time required for implementation in their respective regions.
On the second day, participants visited Saint Brigid’s Hospital in Ardee (County Louth). With the support of the HSE Capital & Estates Energy Bureau, the facility has implemented a range of energy efficiency improvement projects, putting it on track to achieve its 2030 emission reduction targets five years early. The study visit program included presentations, a discussion with the hospital team, and a tour of the facility, which allowed the partners to see the solutions applied in practice.
The third interregional meeting of the DAPHNE project in Dublin allowed partners not only to learn more about specific examples of decarbonisation in the healthcare sector, but also to exchange experiences and best practices in energy efficiency from their countries. The meeting highlighted the importance of international cooperation and exchange of experiences in achieving decarbonisation goals in the healthcare sector.
