On March 7-8, 2024, the second partners' meeting of the CommitClimate project was held in Tallinn. The overall goal of the project is, among other things, to improve the competence of local government representatives in the area of energy transition and to develop a new computer simulation model for calculating carbon footprints and modeling scenarios for reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the future.
During the first day of the meeting we focused on the capabilities of the CO2 simulator. Riga Technical University (RTU),which is also the project coordinator, is responsible for its technical preparation. Participants of the meeting had the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the current version of the tool, which has been developed over the one-year implementation of the project. In particular, we discussed the integration of input data based on national and regional averages, as well as the integration of national policies across sectors. Sectors of CO2 emissions that were included in the simulator are: buildings, transportation, energy supply (local energy production) and other sectors not directly related to energy, such as waste management. The methodology for creating the tool focused on the main guidelines of the Covenant of Mayors and the sectors considered in the development of Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plans (SECAPs). At the end of the first day, participants had the opportunity to visit the Mustamäe Combined Heat and Power Plant.
The second day was dedicated to the training module, which will be integrated with the online platform and CO2 simulator. Each of the partners presented the training materials they had prepared, which cover topics such as buildings and energy efficiency, energy production, mobility, circular economy, or energy communities and behavior change.
The meeting, which was attended not only by the project's technical partners, but also by representatives of the municipalities, was a great opportunity to discuss, exchange knowledge and experience in various areas of the implemented activities. From Poland, the meeting was attended by representatives of Municipality of Pałecznica and Municipality of Raciechowcie.
Very soon the work on the CO2 simulator will be completed, also we invite you to follow the project website so that you will be up to date with the ongoing project activities.
The meeting was hosted by Tallinn Technical University - TalTech. The event was held as part of the CommitClimate project funded by the Interreg Baltic Sea Region program.
