On June 9, 2022 the representatives of the Bielsko-Biała universities and schools operating in the Local Advisory Group took part in the study visit in Krakow within the S3UNICA project - Intelligent solutions on university campuses. The purpose of the event was to inspire the implementation of new solutions on campuses in Bielsko-Biała by presenting energy efficiency investments implemented at Kraków's universities.
The visit started at the AGH Energy Centre. This modern research center is a unit of the AGH University of Science and Technology in Krakow whose task is to stimulate the development of scientific and business circles in the field of power engineering. The Centre specialises in research and development (R&D) for the benefit of science and economy. The participants could not only visit several laboratories located there but also talk to the employees of the facility about the way they work and the tools and technologies they use every day.
The second part of the visit was devoted to the visit at Malopolska Laboratory of Energy Efficient Buildings PK. MLBE is a research and development center where research on energy efficient technologies is conducted. It is a passive building with a compact structure and modern façade, which has been in operation since 2014. The laboratory is the first place in Poland where such a large-scale research on energy-efficient technologies and comfort of low-energy building inhabitants is conducted. This interesting project has given Krakow University of Technology a leading position in the energy-efficient construction sector, which at the same time provides excellent inspiration and motivation for similar inspiring projects in other research institutions.
The study tour allowed participants to learn about the operation of two important facilities at Krakow universities. It was an opportunity to learn about the real effects of actions in the field of energy efficiency, and at the same time it allowed to broaden technical knowledge and see the chances and possibilities of expanding and making good use of university campuses. This day full of inspiration will certainly result in the future development of other educational institutions!
